The Crown: too controversial for Netflix, this sulphurous character will be at the heart of his own series

Since 2019, Prince Andrew has been the target of an unprecedented media scandal linked to the Epstein affair. The billionaire’s entourage includes actor Kevin Spacey, former US presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, but also Prince Andrew – considered one of his closest friends.

At his request, and with the agreement of the Queen, the latter announced in November 2019 his withdrawal from public commitments linked to his status as a member of the royal family.

Stripped of his military titles in 2022 (he was, however, allowed to wear his uniform upon the death of Elizabeth II), the Duke of York was also expelled from his apartments at Buckingham Palace by decision of his brother the King Charles III in early 2023, following the publication of a book written by one of his accusers.

Excerpt from the interview with Prince Andrew by journalist Emily Maitlis

After A Very English Scandal and A Very British Scandal, the anthology series which discusses the most popular news stories in the United Kingdom will return for a third season, entitled A Very Royal Scandal. The series will return on this occasion to the accusations against Prince Andrew.

More precisely, the series will return to the interview given by the latter to BBC journalist Emily Maitlis. Broadcast in October 2019, this interview was organized to allow the prince to ensure his defense and to preserve his image among the general public.

The show nevertheless turned into a disaster, due to the poverty of the arguments presented by the prince, and his total disconnection with the seriousness of the facts of which he is accused.

The series will follow the professional and personal journey of the journalist (played by Ruth Wilson), and will go in depth behind the scenes of this interview. Prince Andrew will be played by Michael Sheen, who was already seen in the royal biopic The Queen in the role of Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Soon to be filmed, the series A Very Royal Scandal will be broadcast on a date currently unknown on Prime Video.
