the cry from the heart of a bereaved mother

In Ivry-sur-Seine in Val-de-Marne, Marjorie lost her life on Friday May 14, 2021 under the stab wounds of a 15-year-old teenager. The assailant was arrested.

“A child who kills another child, do you realize? […] What’s left to do but cry? It will never bring my daughter back. ” These are the words of the mother of Marjorie, a 17-year-old teenager living in the district of Hoche, in a street of the city of Pierre and Marie Curie in Ivry-sur-Seine (94). In front of the press, immortalized by The Parisian, the bereaved mother recalls the facts that led to the murder of her daughter in broad daylight on Friday, May 14, 2021.

Questioned by her little sister, at the center of a rivalry between college students on Snapchat, Marjorie would have wanted to try a mediation with the young man so that the cyber-harassment stops. It was there that the teenager, born in November 2006 and aged 14, struck Marjorie with a fatal kitchen knife in the chest. He then fled and was arrested at his mother’s home in Essonne a few hours later.

Marjorie, a diligent high school student who wanted to become an engineer, will not survive her injuries. “It wasn’t a settling of scores, nor drugs, she wasn’t in a gang” explains Cynthia, big sister of the victim to the Parisian. She specifies that the victim had simply wanted to defend her little sister with words. “She would never have believed that a child smaller than her could take her life” asserts his mother.

“My generation fought with fists and words. Today we are at the point of taking knives, guns. Where do you think the young people are? You are not tired of mourning families?” Cynthia asks angrily in front of the cameras. The mother of the victim calls on the parents to be more vigilant: “I ask parents to pull themselves together, not to abandon their children.”

The mayor of the town, Philippe Bouyssou (PCF) shared his sadness to AFP remembering that rivalries that start on social networks can be fatal: “This is the result of some form of social media harassment. I am deeply sad and shocked that this kind of mess can lead to such a drama.”

This is one of the reasons why cyber-harassing a child under the age of 15 is an offense punishable by 3 years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros if the perpetrator is an adult. If the perpetrator is a minor over 13 years of age, as is the case here, he risks 18 months in prison and a 7,500 euros fine.

Marjorie’s family set up a pot to offer him a “beautiful burial and a beautiful burial.”
