Delta force: the story of a cult battle
Delta Force combines a bit of the multiplayer of Battlefield and the realism of Insurgency Sandstorm. The problem is that this reboot will be offered in free-to-play, enough to cool some people. The FPS oscillates between two eras: the campaign allows in particular to relive the events of the Battle of Mogadishu (1993), while integrating events of the near future for the multiplayer component.
The Battle of Mogadishu is also known as Black Hawk Down after the title of Mark Bowden’s book which chronicles the event. It was then adapted into a film by good old Ridley Scott. As its name suggests, it took place on October 3 and 4, 1993 in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. Indeed, in the early 1990s, Somalia was in the throes of a civil war. The United Nations therefore launched a humanitarian operation in 1992 to help alleviate the famine caused by the conflict.
A ruthless fight
The following year, American forces intervened in Operation Restore Hope with the objective of arresting Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid, considered by the United States to be one of the main obstacles to the distribution of food. ‘help. On October 3, 1993, US Special Forces, including elements of the 75th Ranger Regiment and Delta Force (hence the game’s name), launched a mission to capture key Aidid lieutenants.
The operation was supposed to be quick, but it quickly became complicated when two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down by Somali militiamen. US soldiers found themselves surrounded and under heavy fire from Somali militias. The operation, which was supposed to last less than an hour, turned into a 15-hour battle. A total of 18 American soldiers were killed and more than 70 wounded. The game’s narrative campaign should therefore make us relive these events.
What to expect from the game?
IGN interviewed the developers of the Delta Force reboot. The FPS seems to be part of the continuity of previous games, emphasizing realism and immersion. To achieve this goal, the studio solicited actors, used photogrammetry, captured the movements of professional military personnel and consulted with former members of the special forces. A guarantee of quality ? We hope so. The multiplayer part would nevertheless be in the future. The studio says about it:
Our goal is to preserve the authenticity of Delta Force, while bringing a futuristic touch to it, both artistically and narratively.

Our designers opted for an immersive multiplayer battlefield, accommodating more than the previous 32 players.
For the moment we know that 3 game modes will be available, namely:
- Campaign mode – Black Hawk Down: As mentioned previously, this mode is inspired by the battle of Mogadishu, immortalized by the eponymous film.
- Extract mode – Hazard Operations: This is a PVP/Co-op mode where players must face off against both other squads and AI-run mercenaries. This mode will also incorporate many PvE events.
- PvP Mode – Havoc Warfare : This is the main multiplayer mode inspired by Battlefield. The maximum number of players who can participate simultaneously remains to be determined.
Delta Force is currently in pre-alpha stage and it will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC and even mobiles.
