Another wrestler executed in Iran
Five months after Navid Afkari was executed another wrestler executed in Iran for a homicide offense been.
The 30-year-old Mehdi-Ali Hosseini had killed a youth in a dispute in the city of Andimeschk in 2015 and was therefore sentenced to death by a court. According to media reports, Hosseini was a regional wrestler and not a member of the Iranian national team.
The wrestler Afkari was executed in September last year. According to the Iranian judiciary, he had killed a security officer and confessed to the crime in 2018 during a protest demonstration in Shiraz in southern Iran. The athlete, his family and human rights activists argued that the confession was obtained through torture.
