The Day Before scam has reappeared on Steam, a scam within a scam

In the space of a few hours, The Day Before, which disappeared permanently in January, has reappeared on Steam. This is another scam, which therefore uses an old scam to get people talking.

Are we in scamception? As spotted by Carole Quintaine, content creator, in a tweet published on February 15, The Day Before has made a sudden reappearance on Steam. The product page is already no longer available, but Numerama can confirm that it existed with screenshots. As one can guess, it is not the real one The Day Before, this scam which was withdrawn from sale after four days. But a completely different scam.

Sold for €5.89, this fake The Day Before was accompanied by a lunar press release: “ Carrot The Cat is the official codename for the return of The Day Before. We will explain why we changed the identity and the page of the game, but also its overall content. We are in partnership with a studio that wishes to remain anonymous for legal reasons, but we can assure you that everything is under control. » The malotrus also specify that the game files go from 55 to 13 GB.

The Day Before scam is the victim of a scam in turn

Carrot The Cat, the game mentioned in the press release, really exists, as can be seen on the SteamDB database. In recent days, the creators have had fun modifying the information about him several times. For example, the name was changed to Grand Theft Auto: Brazil on February 12, before becoming The Day Before on February 15. In short, we are clearly seeing people who are having fun riding on the popularity of other brands.

The fake The Day Before had collected a few evaluations before disappearing. Unsurprisingly, they point the finger at deception. “ It’s a fake, it’s not a game developed by the studio behind The Day Before. It’s a demo for a completely different game called Last Whisper Survival which is even worse than The Day Before », underlines psi. Psydex confirms: “ No resemblance to GTA or The Day Before. They just change the name and update the page with fake captures. » Final confirmation: “It’s not The Day Before. It’s a scam called The Last Whisper. Fntastic is not the originator », a comment signed FuzhouYT.

These scammers are trying to make money. Steam should not allow these games without verifying them. But it will get them a lawsuit », indignant GamingDaHouse on Reddit. It is very funny to note that The Day Before, a proven scam, is in turn the victim of a scam. Fntastic, which closed its doors due to the failure, but insisted on defending the indefensible by accusing the “bloggers”, has not communicated anything about this furtive return. Not even the shadow of a disconfirmation.
