The Day Before: Should we fear a cancellation?

Announced in early 2021, The Day Before quickly caught the attention of players, selling a realistic open world with a strong multiplayer component and was, initially, to be released at the end of it. Naturally, like many other games, it was postponed (unofficial, given that no specific date had been shared) to finally arrive in June 2022, before being postponed to March 2023 and, now, to November of the same year.

Faced with these postponements, of several months each time, and the imbroglio that surrounds this new delay, the community has real questions about the reliability of the project.

Will The Day Before be released or be cancelled?

Following this report, several testimonials appeared on social networks, to highlight the so-called scam that is The Day Before, explaining that it would never see the light of day. If the frustration of seeing one of the most anticipated games being postponed can be understood, there is a real fear, more or less founded, but fueled by the wobbly communication of the developers since the announcement.

We’ve seen gameplay all too rarely, and the last time such images were shared, the studio hadn’t yet migrated to Unreal Engine 5. Faced with this impatience, Fntastic had taken the commitment to show us more during this month of January 2023, before postponing the game, due to a trademark issue. Indeed, on January 25, the studio explained that a person, owning the domain name The Day Before, had requested the removal of the game’s Steam page, which was done. A grotesque situation that raises questions about the seriousness of the developers.

In the aftermath, on Twitter, screenshots of a public discussion on Discord were revealed, on which we can see that the main moderator and his team have never seen gameplay, explaining with more or less humor that he doesn’t know if the game is real. However, this point can be explained by the fact that the moderators are voluntary, point which had made speak a few months ago.

All this does not, a priori, in any way call into question the project. Even if the eight months of postponements may seem too important for such a problem, it seemed obvious that the title was not ready yet, given that a month from its launch, Fntastic was still so discreet. Things could therefore accelerate in the coming months, if all goes well.

Moreover, this is not the first project from the developers, who have already released Propnight, at the end of 2021. Admittedly, the experience is not perfect and many problems are still present, but Fntastic is not there yet. in his first game, which normally allows him to give a little of his confidence. We will see how all this develops in the coming days and weeks, but it’s a safe bet that these postponements are caused by the quality of the game, below the expectations of the developers, who may have aimed too high, and not by the desire to rip off an entire community.

In conclusion, only time will tell whether The Day Before is going to be canceled, but it is too early to speak of a scam, even if these fears are understandable. If, however, it is the victim of a new postponement, the credit that the community brings to the survival MMO will dwindle, for good reason. In the meantime, we offer you a recap of all the information known about The Day Before.
