The Day: Bolton's book: Trump asked for China's help for re-election

Donald Trump's former National Security Advisor John Bolton accuses the president of repeated abuse of office and, in some cases, serious ignorance in a disclosure book. The New York Times reports on the allegations, citing the as-yet-unpublished book.

  • According to Bolton, Trump has repeatedly asked Chinese leader Xi Jinping for help in re-election next November. At a meeting with Trump, Trump appealed to Xi to import more US agricultural goods in order to secure the important voices of farmers.
  • Bolton also accused Trump of frequently basing his foreign policy on gut instinct and ignorance. For example, the president did not know that Great Britain is a nuclear power and once asked whether Finland was part of Russia.
  • According to Bolton, Trump should also have considered leaving NATO very seriously.

The U.S. government filed a lawsuit against the publication of the book on Tuesday.
