The last sister of former US President John F. Kennedy is dead. On Wednesday, Jean Kennedy Smith died in her apartment in New York at the age of 92, daughter Kym Smith told The New York Times and several other US media .

• Jean Kennedy Smith was born in Boston in 1928 and was the second youngest of the family's nine children. From 1993 to 1998 she worked under Bill Clinton as US Ambassador to Ireland for five years, becoming a prominent figure in the peace process in Northern Ireland.
• Kennedy Smith was also known for her charity work. Among other things, she had founded a program to promote the art of the disabled.
• It leaves four children and seven grandchildren behind, according to the Washington Post.
