The day: Policeman presses knee on head – Controversial operation in Düsseldorf is being investigated

This video recording is very reminiscent of the arrest of George Floyd in the USA – but this time the scene is in Germany, more precisely in Düsseldorf.

The video, which is currently circulating on social networks, shows a policeman in the old town of the state capital who presses the knee on the head of a man lying on the ground. The Düsseldorf police reported that the incident took place on Saturday evening around 7.30 p.m.

After the recordings became known, the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Interior announced that it would have the case examined more closely. For reasons of neutrality, the investigation is being led by the Duisburg police headquarters. "We take this video very seriously," said a ministry spokesman. "Should there be any misconduct by police officers during the mission, it will of course be followed up consistently."

The police are said to have been called to a nearby restaurant on Saturday evening because of a group of rioters. On the fringes of this incident, an uninvolved youth apparently disrupted the operation. When his identity was to be established, he assaulted the police officers.
