The day: This is important today

Good morning dear readers,

the election campaign in the USA is slowly picking up speed and the Democrats are verbally opening their guns. Ex-President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are doing a lot against Donald Trump. "Donald Trump has not grown into the job because he cannot. And the consequences of this failure are grave," Obama said at the Democratic Congress.

And these topics are on the agenda today:

  • In the deadlocked dispute over the new road traffic regulations, the federal and state governments want to advise on how to proceed. In the run-up to the talks at the state secretary level, no agreement was expected. In Berlin government circles it was said that it was a question of a professional and legal exchange, there could be an agreement on the further procedure. Due to a formal error, new rules on fines were suspended.
  • The Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and other representatives of the Fridays for Future movement are guests of Chancellor Angela Merkel. In the Chancellery in Berlin, Merkel wants to talk to you about the EU's climate policy, among other things, as she has announced.
  • The Croatian tourism industry fears a travel warning from the federal government for the popular travel destination on the Adriatic. A travel warning from Germany "would hit us the hardest," said the director of the Croatian tourist office in Frankfurt, Romeo Draghicchio, of the German press agency. "The Germans are our number one holiday group."
  • In Berlin, Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze presents findings on how much rubbish and what exactly ends up in parks and on the streets instead of in the rubbish bins.
  • The interior committee in the Düsseldorf state parliament today deals, among other things, with the controversial police operation in Düsseldorf's old town.

"Der Tag" will of course also provide you with all other important and useful news. If you have any questions or suggestions, just write me an email. My name is Michael Bauer and I wish you a good start to the day.
