The raising of the rainbow flags on the building of the US embassy in Moscow is making waves. "LGBTI rights are human rights," wrote the message on Facebook. "Everyone deserves to live a life free from hatred, prejudice and persecution."
The campaign caused many nasty comments on the Internet. The message was apparently filled, someone wrote on Twitter. One user even suggested expelling American diplomats and wrote, "Shame!" Other users also welcomed the step.
Russia's leadership has long been internationally criticized for fueling hatred of sexual minorities through its policies. A law signed by Putin prohibits punishment of showing same-sex love in the presence of children.
