the deadline in each department

Mid-May has passed… and with the fine weather, the deadlines for the 2021 income tax return are coming. Good news for those who are still filling out the tax return in paper format: the deadline has been extended to Tuesday 31 may. On the internet, you have until May 24, 31 or June 8.

If ever you or your loved ones are unable to declare online, it’s time to look into the paper declaration! Good news, however: Exceptionally, the deadline for submitting paper tax returns initially scheduled for May 19 has been postponed to May 31, 2022, announced the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFiP) last Wednesday.

This deferral was introduced to take into account the situation of certain users (less than 5%), who received their 2021 tax return pre-filled in paper format, significantly later than in previous years. For the paper form, the deadline for subscribing to the comprehensive income statement therefore expires. Tuesday, May 31, 2022 midnight, as evidenced by the postmark. Important reminder, teledeclaration is compulsory, except for those who are unable to declare on the internet, i.e. if you do not have internet access or if you are unable to use it, details the DGFIP.

This postponement has no impact on the schedule for filing declarations online, which remains unchanged. If you are about to declare online in your private space on impots.gouv.fr, the deadlines range, depending on the department, between the end of May and the beginning of Juneas detailed in the following table.

Like every year, for the online tax returnthe deadlines are spread over three weeks: Tuesday May 24 Marseille (department 13)for example, the Tuesday May 31 Nantes (44) and the Wednesday, June 8 Paris (75), before midnight. A progressive schedule which above all allows the tax authorities to streamline traffic on impots.gouv.fr. In the event of a recent move, the declaration deadline to be used is that of the department in which your residence is located on 1 January 2022.

Good news, if ever the DGFiP has warned you of your eligibility for automatic declaration: for you, doing nothing… is declaring. But be careful, do not forget to at least take a look at the summary document received by mail or available on your impots.gouv.fr space. Because the General Tax Code provides that the taxpayer having received this document is deemed to have subscribed to the declaration. It’s up to you to check that no error is hidden in the pre-filled information, and possibly to think about claiming reductions or tax credits.
