The deal is fixed! – Chinese brands Ora and Wey want to conquer Europe

The ink under the contract between the manufacturer and the importer is dry: the Chinese car group Great Wall Motors will be celebrating its market entry in Europe with two brands this year: Ora and Wey. Both presented their vehicles to the public at the IAA in Munich almost a year ago. The response was great.

While Way played the opulence card with the Coffee 01, Ora showed off a car as cute as a cat video with the Cat. The design is based on the VW Beetle or Beetle, but the drive is purely electric, the equipment is high-quality and the price is cheap. At 4.24 meters, the very compact Stromer offers round bulging headlights, a retro look and two-tone paintwork, but despite its small size Size, lots of space inside. The interior of the equipped vehicles, quilted in imitation leather, was so elegant that it was reminiscent of Mercedes. This also applies to the 20.5-inch dual display, which is set up in front of the driver. On the Cat 01, a 126 kW/171 hp and 250 Newton meter electric motor drives the front wheels. The standard sprint takes 8.5 seconds and is limited to 160 km/h. The 63 kWh battery provides a WLTP range of 400 kilometers, direct current charging is possible with up to 50 kWh. High-tech is of course on board. All assistance systems are controlled via a central processor. The front camera and radar system enable intelligent driving aids such as a motorway assistant. Cameras generate a 360-degree view around the vehicle. An automated reversing assistant records a distance of up to 50 meters – so far only known from BMW. The starting price should be around 30,000 euros. Opulence SUV with monster range The Wey Coffee 01 is an impressive plug-in hybrid. In terms of format (and also in terms of requirements), it is on the level of a BMW X5 or Mercedes GLE, and the people from Stuttgart must also have been inspired when it comes to interior design. Everything looks elegant and dignified in a modern way, the quilted door panels, the speaker panels, it all reminds of Mercedes. Only the design of the cockpit with the towering black wall paints a different picture. On the other hand, the integrated 9.2-inch speedometer display is more eye-catching. The central display measures 14.6 inches, the head-up display with augmented reality should be offered as standard. The camera should recognize the driver’s face and then make all personal settings. The stately dimensions of 4.87 meters in length and 2.91 meters wheelbase lead to plenty of space in the interior. A total of three engines provide the drive. Under the hood sits a two-liter four-cylinder with 150 hp, integrated into the nine-speed automatic is an electric motor with 110 kW/150 hp. There is also another electric motor with 135 kW/184 hp on the rear axle. The manufacturer specifies 350 kW/476 hp as the system output. The electric range of the 2220 kg all-wheel drive vehicle, which reaches 100 km/h in five seconds, is said to be 150 kilometers. The starting price at the IAA was around 50,000 euros. Europe start in autumn Great Wall Motor is one of the six largest Chinese car manufacturers. The Emil Frey Group, founded in 1924 and headquartered in Zurich, will import the two brands (has nothing to do with the former Austrian Toyota and MG importer). Imports in Germany will begin in the fourth quarter of 2022. It has not yet been announced when the first Oras and Wey will roll to Austria.
