The deployment of Ultra High Definition on France 2 and France 3 begins, with the first antennas installed in the Paris region.

It was announced. In May, the government asked to authorize France TV channels to broadcast in Ultra High Definition (UHD), also known as 4K definition. And since then, operations have started well, with the installation of the first 4K TNT antennas in the Paris region, which allow you to forget Full HD mode to watch France 2 and France 3.

It all starts in Île-de-France

Île-de-France is the first to benefit from this progress. If you live in the capital region, you should be able to watch France 2 and France in UHD on TNT channels, by selecting channel 52 and channel 53 respectively.

With this new feature, the image quality will go from 1920 x 1080 pixels of HD to 3840 x 2160 pixels of UHD. Likewise, the frame rate will be doubled, from 25 to 50 frames per second. For sound, Dolby Digital Plus (E‑AC3) and Dolby AC-4 AC4 formats will be supported.

The Olympic Games in sight

This change is being initiated in view of the Olympic Games, which will be held next summer in Paris. And if Paris and its surrounding area are the first to be able to benefit from it, the rest of the territory should very quickly also be able to be entitled to UHD. Thus, according to the director of development of broadcasting & distribution networks at France TV Jacques Donat-Bouillud, several large cities in the country will be covered from January 23.

Ultimately, the objective is to be able to extend UHD to nearly 70% of the territory by June 2024, just before the opening ceremony scheduled for the following July 26. By this date, 15 overseas sites should also be covered.
