The descent into hell continues for NFTs

L’annus horribilis continues for NFTs. In the wake of cryptocurrencies which are struggling to regain color, these digital objects, deemed unique and unforgeable, are no longer as popular as in 2021, the year of their explosion, and this is reflected in sales in the sector, which have fallen by nearly 60% in the third quarter. Between July and September, NFT sales thus amounted to 3.4 billion dollars, against 8.4 billion in the previous quarter, according to figures released by DappRadar, which collects from Reuters data on ten blockchains different.

Symbol of this infernal spiral, sales on OpenSea, the sector’s main marketplace, fell in September for the fifth consecutive month. After last year’s craze, buyers fled this market which was just beginning to take off. As a result, the weekly number of NFT buyers has more than halved from its peak in late January, according to market tracker NonFungible.com.
