The design of the Cupra Urban electric city car is aggressive and angular, and we love

In 2025, Cupra will launch the UrbanRebel, a 100% electric city car with a fiery style. The aggressive design is successful. It targets a young clientele.

Cupra has chosen an unequivocal name for its future 100% electric model. On the occasion of a conference organized on June 7, the manufacturer, which was initially the performance label of Seat, unveiled a slightly more definitive version of the UrbanRebel, an uninhibited city car which should catch the eye of the younger. The design, in any case, does not leave indifferent.

Of course, Cupra goes a little less far than its concept unveiled a year ago, at the Munich show (there was a huge rear spoiler!). The fact remains that the firm wants to mark the occasion with this cousin of the Volkswagen ID.1, developed from the MEB platform (architecture developed by the Volkswagen group, for all branches). With this compact vehicle, Cupra really dreams of a “ more rebellious electric world “.

See you in 2025 for Cupra’s 100% electric city car

The UrbanRebel is deliberately very sculpted to affirm this much-vaunted burst of passion. The aim is undoubtedly to provoke reactions among pedestrians when walking in urban environments. The front end turns out to be rather muscular, despite a squat nose, topped off by a bonnet with pronounced ribs. The rear is raised, almost giving the impression that the UrbanRebel would fit in the small SUV category. The luminous signature, made up of triangles, surrounds the logo dressed in red. In terms of street credthe car imposes – despite reduced measurements (4.03 meters long).

On the performance side, Cupra boasts weight savings to allow the 226 horsepower (166 kW) engine installed at the front to reach 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds – more than enough performance to sneak in the city. Autonomy is announced at 440 kilometers, a data which will obviously depend on the different versions planned for marketing. It’s barely better than the Born, Cupra’s first 100% electric car, limited to 419 kilometers.

Cupra will have the opportunity to develop the UrbanRebel’s technical sheet by the launch scheduled for 2025. Production will take place in Martorell, a municipality located in Catalonia. It is still too early to talk about the price, even if Wayne Griffiths, president of Seat and Cupra, wants it “ accessible “. Today, the Born, derived from the Volkswagen ID.3, still sells for €43,800.
