True to form, the OnLeaks account published 3D renderings of future Google smartphones several months before their release. In 2024, the web giant is preparing to finally renew the design of its smartphones, after having been very conservative since 2021.
If you don’t like the finish of the Pixel 8 smartphones, you might love that of the Pixel 9, expected in fall 2024.
Since the Pixel 6 in 2021, Google has offered almost the same smartphone every year. The product improves year after year, notably with a matte back on the latest models, but its finishes remain identical. Google still offers the same shiny and rounded borders, which lack quality compared to those of an iPhone or a Galaxy S. This is one of the reasons which led us to criticize the latest Pixel 8, which struggles to justify their price increases.
In an article published on January 23, the MySmartPrice site, in partnership with the leaker OnLeaks, reveals a first glimpse of the future Pixel 9 Pro. Like every year, OnLeaks uses factory diagrams to model unannounced products in 3D. The Pixel 9 Pro looks extremely promising.
Flat edges, edge-to-edge screen and protruding camera module
If Google continues in this direction, the Pixel 9 Pro could introduce a real design change. No more rounded edges, make way for flat and rectangular edges, like Apple and Samsung. The web giant would also make a notable effort in terms of screen borders, which promise to be extremely thin. Finally, the imposing rectangular block of the camera module would be replaced by a slightly protruding oval, which would leave space on the sides.
Is there any chance we won’t have this design in October? Historically, OnLeaks has often been reliable. Since it is supplied by factories and brands finalize the design of their future devices several months in advance, it is rare for an unpleasant surprise to occur. In short, everything suggests that the future Pixel 9 Pro will indeed be a device with a transformed design.
