the DGFiP alerts you to this new obligation for owners

A new declaration must be completed for all owners before June 30, 2023. The General Directorate of Public Finances alerts all those who must comply with this new obligation.

As you may know, French owners will have to complete a new declaration by June 30. Because if the residence tax is abolished for the main residences, for all households, the residence taxes on the secondary residences and on the vacant premises are however maintained.

In an email sent this Tuesday, March 7, the General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFiP) explains that this new reporting obligation, listed in article 1418 of the general tax code, to be carried out from the My real estate tab of its personal space on the tax site, must allow the tax administration to clearly identify the dwellings affected by these remaining taxes.

A declaration for each of your premises

If you have ever gone to your personal space, you have seen that several declarations were requested for the same property. Indeed, you must complete it for each of your premises (including car parks, cellars, etc.), reminds the DGFiP.

You must then declare what title you occupy the property and, when you do not occupy them yourself, give the identity of the occupants and the period of their occupation (situation as of January 1, 2023).

As a reminder, in the event that the accommodation is on a platform such as Airbnb, and rent only a few weeks a year, you can declare it on your personal space. The DGFiP explains that seasonal rental is offered in the leased course. Only the start date of the seasonal rental is requested and the identification of the different tenants is not required.

In its email, the DGFiP explains that to facilitate your declaration, the occupation data known to the tax services is pre-filled. However, some MoneyVox readers have alerted to errors in the pre-filled information. In this case, modifications can be made.

A possible fine of 150 euros

If you are unable to do them online, you must send a complaint to your tax department via your secure messaging system by reporting the error found. If you need assistance making your declaration or if you have a problem accessing our online services, you can call 0809401401 (free service + price of a call), Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., or go directly to the tax department or to the France services area closest to you to access a self-service computer and benefit from if necessary, personalized support, assures the DGFiP.

You have until June 30, 2023 to declare the occupancy status of your property. In the event of non-declaration, error, omission or incomplete declaration, a fine of a fixed amount of 150 euros per premises can be applied, says Bercy, while ensuring that there will be reminders at first and a certain benevolence.
