Health Insurance is continuing the deployment of the digital vital card in 23 additional departments. Here is the full list. We also explain how to take advantage of it.
Since 2019, the government has sought to dematerialize our official documents. Via the France Identity platform, for example, it has been possible since September 2023 to digitize your national identity card.
The Vitale Card has also been affected by this digitalization process since January 2023. Its transition to digital format was also made official by a decree at the end of 2022. For the occasion, Health Insurance launched a dedicated application on Android and iOS.
According to the organization, the advantages of the app are numerous, for health professionals and policyholders alike. For patients, they can in particular directly consult their receipts for healthcare expenses, delegate the use of their Vitale card to a trusted person or identify themselves securely to various digital health services.
The digital vital card continues its deployment in France
As Health Insurance explained in July 2023, the deployment of the digital vital card will be done gradually. So, last year, it was only available in 8 departmentsnamely the Alpes-Maritimes, Bas-Rhin, Loire-Atlantique, Puy-de-Dôme, Rhône, Saône-et-Loire, Sarthe and Seine-Maritime.
However, with the latest update of the app, deployment continues in several departments. Here is the complete list of territories concerned:

Please note that this new version of the app includes a new eligibility criterion. Indeed, it is now imperative to have opened an account or an insured space online on the website of your health insurance organization to benefit from it.
How to activate your digital vital card?
If you live in one of the departments mentioned above and you meet the criteria mentioned, you can now activate your digital vital card. Here are the steps to follow :
- After downloading the application from the Play Store or App Store, open it
- Then begin the activation process by 5 steps
- Accept the terms of use and continue
- Now bring your vital card (or your social security number), the email address used for your online account and your national identity card
- You can choose scan your vital card via the Photo app from your smartphone (bugs may occur) or enter the numbers manually
- You will then receive a security code to the email address linked to your health insurance area
- Enter the 6-digit verification code
The last step is to verify your identity one final and final time. To do this, Health Insurance will compare the photo of your identity document with a live video capture of your face. Unfortunately, This step is mandatory to activate the app… You will therefore need to authorize the use of your smartphone’s microphone and camera to start the process.
Finally, you will have to scan your identity card from every angle (front, back and sideways to highlight the pictogram). All that remains is to choose a personal secret code and voila. Let us point out that the app will not be functional immediately, it is indeed necessary wait 48 hours until your file is validated by Health Insurance.
