At the dawn of Euro 2022, women’s football is gaining momentum. An increased visibility which is explained by gala meetings and accessible prices.

It was time ! Women’s football is just beginning to get the recognition it deserves. The discipline is currently surfing on a wave of visibility, quite remarkable. The last meeting of the two biggest French clubs is proof of this! On Saturday April 30, 2022, during the semi-finals of the Champions League, 43,254 spectators went to the Parc des Princes to attend the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais. Despite the defeat and the elimination at the gates of the final, the Parisians were able to count on a public on fire. The national attendance record for a women’s football match was also beaten on this occasion. A record that had already been established, a few weeks earlier, during the previous round of the competition. Currently, women’s football is entering a new dimension enjoying great visibility and unprecedented enthusiasm a few weeks before theEuro 2022.

If the supporters and the spectators are more and more numerous, it is above all thanks to the management of the women’s soccer clubs. The latter have been providing the stadiums used by the men’s teams for several seasons now. Thus, the players can practice their art in the emblematic enclosures of international football. For example, in the quarter-finals of the Champions League 2022, sportswomen were able to play at the Juventus Stadium (Turin), the Emirates (London), the Groupama Stadium (Lyon) or the Camp Nou (Barcelona). In addition, the Catalan building, a monument to football, holds the world attendance record for a women’s football match, having received no less than 91,648 spectators on April 23, 2022.

Women’s football: more than attractive prices

If women’s football matches have become much more attractive, it is also thanks to prices offered by the clubs. Much more affordable than for the men’s teams, places to see the sportswomen are accessible to everyone. For example, FC Barcelona offers tickets between €9 and €15 for the general public and an administrative fee of €2.50 for members of the club. Even though women’s football has already exploded in Spain, other countries are following the trend closely. England, the host country of Euro 2022, has already seen its attendance grow. Like a fourth division match which attracted more than 22,000 people to Newcastle on May 1, 2022. The European competition promises to be fiery…
