This Saturday, March 30, after a hiker alerted about a skull found near Haut-Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), the authorities are categorical. These are indeed the bones of little Émile, 2 and a half years old, who has been missing since July 8, 2023. The child then spent his vacation in this village, with his grandparents, with part of his family. He would have escaped their vigilance and would have vanished.
After his disappearance, significant resources had been deployed to find him and beats had been organized. Several hearings took place, and a reconstruction of the child’s disappearance brought together 17 people on Thursday March 28. Police searches continue to find the rest of Émile’s body. An expert presumes that Émile’s body was moved
According to Jacques-Charles Fombonne, former commander of the national training center for the judicial police of the gendarmerie interviewed by franceinfo, the child’s body may have been moved. “Given the means that were used, we really searched, that means that the body moved”, he assures. Information which, let us point out, has not not confirmed by those in charge of the investigation.
Anyway, for this expert, it is unlikely that the police dispatched to the scene could have missed the body. “It is difficult to imagine, even if the body was buried quite deeply, that they would have missed it. Especially since they passed several timesseveral days after his disappearance”, he explains. A crucial clue could help investigators determine whether Émile’s body was indeed moved (by humans, by bad weather or by animals): the position of the bones on the ground. “If you have the whole body with bones that are in an absolutely unnatural position, this rules out the accident“, specifies Jacques-Charles Fombonne. On the contrary, “if the body is complete and the bones are in a natural position, this means that the child has fallen and, extraordinarily, we didn’t find it.”he continues, noting that this can also mean that the body could have been deposited delicately on the scene, and this, “without disrupting the ordering of the bones”.

In his press release released this Sunday March 31, the Aix-en-Provence prosecutor indicated that “forensic analyzes of bones” by the Criminal Research Institute of the National Gendarmerie (IRCGN) were not yet finished.
