The Dropout: did you like the series? A movie is in the works with a big star

Disney+ is currently airing The Dropout, the miniseries about Elizabeth Holmes, the youngest self-proclaimed billionaire, whose supposedly brilliant invention never came to fruition. Adam McKay is about to tell the same story with Jennifer Lawrence.

Currently on Disney+, the miniseries The Dropout – brilliantly brought to life by Amanda Seyfried – tells the true and incredible story of Elizabeth Holmes, a young woman with promising talent but who got caught up in such lies that she ended up losing everything.

Becoming America’s youngest billionaire in the early 2000s, Elizabeth Holmes rose to sudden fame by inventing a machine capable of analyzing a single drop of blood and issuing a diagnosis. Only, if the idea is brilliant, its implementation is laborious. And this, despite the hard work of teams dedicated to the project.

If the prototype did not keep its promises, Elizabeth Holmes did not hesitate to make a falsified presentation from the only successful test of her machine. Thanks to this deception, she managed to convince investors, raised millions of dollars, reached a market capitalization of nearly 10 billion and is now preparing to end up in prison.

Adam McKay and Jennifer Lawrence reunited again

But this story that fascinated the United States will soon be adapted into a feature film. After working together on Don’t Look Up, director Adam McKay and actress Jennifer Lawrence are set to team up again for the film Bad Blood, adapted from the book of the same name, which chronicles the rise and fall of fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her startup Theranos.

Adam McKay told the site about it Insider on the occasion of the promotion of the Netflix film. To interpret Elizabeth Holmes in the right way, Jennifer Lawrence must first succeed in reproducing what makes Elizabeth Holmes immediately recognizable, her unique deep voice.

Adam McKay told Insider that Bad Blood would likely be her next movie and said the actress is still working on the character: “I haven’t made him do it for me yet“, he said about the voice. “She said she was working there.

At the time of the interview, in January 2022, McKay admits he hasn’t pressed Lawrence about it yet because she was still pregnant with her first child at that time. “She was born to play this role“, added the director about Jennifer Lawrence playing Elizabeth Holmes. “For the voice, she said she felt good about it. She is excited.

Announced since 2016, Bad Blood is however slow to see the light of day. However, the announcement of the purchase of the film rights by Apple TV+ last December suggests that its production should not be (too) long.
