With its CleanTrace technology, Dyson wants to revolutionize the way we vacuum. How ? Thanks to augmented reality!
Indeed, if some have adopted a small autonomous robot vacuum cleaner at home (Ecovacs style, to name but one), others prefer the Dyson style. To these, the British brand will soon offer the CleanTrace system, powered by augmented reality, which will scan a room for optimal efficiency.
Augmented reality to assist Dyson vacuum cleaners
“ You forgot to vacuum that corner, right? » We have all heard or said this phrase in our lives. Indeed, no matter how involved we are when vacuuming, we often tend to “forget” an area. With CleanTrace from Dyson, goodbye to dead zones!
In fact, through an application available on a smartphone, CleanTrace will make it possible to precisely determine the areas which have been vacuumed and those which have not yet been.
A mobile application coming this summer on iOS and Android
Thanks to the magic of augmented reality, the areas already vacuumed will be covered in a purple color to highlight the areas that are impatiently waiting for the Dyson to pass. A way for the group to “gamify” vacuuming, with an application expected this summer on iOS and Android.
“ Cleaning can be a thankless task. Yet, going under furniture and chair legs, moving from room to room, and dodging our furry friends, it’s easy to inadvertently forget areas or vacuum multiple times in one place, reducing efficiency and wasting time “, explains Dyson.
With CleanTrace, the group wants to make the invisible visible, by identifying forgotten areas and showing proof of the cleanliness of the floor directly on the screen of our smartphones.
Currently, Dyson has confirmed that its Gen5detect will be among the CleanTrace compatible vacuum cleaners. For the user, all they need to do is place their smartphone on the vacuum cleaner tube, and they will then be able to view the different areas on the floor on the screen.

- Impeccable suction quality
- A practical emptying system
- A green light revealing dust
The Gen5 Detect Absolute propels Dyson into the gold standard for stick vacuum cleaners. More efficient, more powerful, more precise, more intelligent, quieter… There’s no stopping it. We remember its motor which runs at 135,000 rpm generating an unfailing suction power of 14,560 Pa, when other cordless vacuum cleaners peak at around 10,000 Pa for the most powerful. Where the Gen5 passes, the dust passes away. Moreover, viruses and bacteria too, thanks to its HEPA filtration and a Fluffy Optic motorized head which reveals dust invisible to the naked eye. We also highlight an autonomy of 70 minutes in Eco mode, which leaves a comfortable margin for vacuuming the entire household.
On the other hand, we regret a device that is still too heavy, as well as an imbalance between the suction power and the battery capacity which struggles to keep pace in Boost mode. A spare battery would have been welcome. For the price, the absence of certain accessories such as the elbow adapter raises questions.
We can say that the Gen5 Detect Absolute purple/gray is the worthy successor to the V15 vacuum cleaner, bringing with it its share of technological developments. We don’t know about you, but we’re looking forward to what’s next.
