The British transport network manager fears the (over)consumption of Tesla’s electric trucks.

Ultimately, a charging station could consume as much as a small American town.

Tesla Semi, a recharge that is already worrying

In a few days, the 1er December very precisely, Tesla will make the first delivery of its electric Semi truck. After a few years of delay, the American electric heavyweight is finally ready and will therefore be hitting the roads very soon.

A truck which will of course gradually benefit from dedicated charging areas, which is already worrying the National Grid, UK transport manager. The latter estimates that heavy goods vehicles will quickly require very (too?) large quantities of electricity to circulate.

Towards colossal electricity consumption?

The Tesla Semi trucks will be available in two versions, the first being able to travel nearly 500 km on a single charge, compared to 800 km for the second. Added to this is a fast recharge, with the possibility of recovering up to 70% autonomy in 30 minutes. Provided that the production holds!

Indeed, the National Grid indicates that the real challenge will not necessarily lie in the amount of overall energy consumed, but rather in the speed with which the chargers must provide said energy.

Also, from 2035, a charging area for Tesla Semis could consume as much as a small American town. A single charging station would consume as much energy as a sports stadium.

Electric trucks that are therefore worrying, not to mention the fact that Tesla will not be the only one to offer “zero emission” trucks, since Mercedes is also on the project, as is Volvo Trucks, the latter having recently formalized truck models equipped with of fossil-free steel and 90% recyclable.
