The main actors for the Netflix series about Sisi and Emperor Franz Joseph have been found: Devrim Lingnau and Philip Froissant.

The main roles for the new Netflix series about Empress "Sisi" have been found: Devrim Lingnau (22) and Philip Froissant (26) play the imperial couple in the German production, as announced in a press release. Lingnau was most recently seen in a leading role in the book adaptation "Auerhaus", Froissant will soon be part of the Netflix thriller "Black Island".

The six-part series about Elisabeth of Austria is entitled "The Empress". Production will begin in spring 2021, and broadcast via the streaming service is scheduled to start in spring 2022. The six episodes directed by Katrin Gebbe (37, "Tatort") and Florian Cossen (41, "Das Lied in mir") revolve around Sisi's first months at the Viennese court and her love story with Emperor Franz Joseph. Showrunner Katharina Eyssen (37) announces that she will tell the "moving story of Empress Elisabeth for today's audience. Corresponding to a modern image of women."

The figure of Sisi should be portrayed as intelligent, passionate and rebellious, while Emperor Franz Joseph appears as an ambivalent ruler, "whose conflicts are more topical than ever." The press release also promises "jealousy, intrigue and power struggles behind the scenes of the Habsburg court". In addition, there will be a question about the freedom of the people. The series could – similar to the current "The Crown" – appeal to a new audience as well as inspire fans of the popular film trilogy from the 50s. Romy Schneider (1938-1982), who was only 17 years old, played the Empress and became a star alongside Karlheinz Böhm (1928-2014).
