A new page is turning for Amazon Prime Video which will deprive subscribers of a unique functionality very soon. A decision that will affect the way some people consume streaming.
If you don’t know what to watch this weekend on Prime Video, Amazon has released part 2 of Invincible season 2. It’s one of the biggest releases of the current month with the latest film – already available by Michael Man, Ferrari, and the remake of Road House which arrives from March 21. So much for the positive, but in recent weeks, less encouraging announcements have been made. As of April 9, 2024, you will have to deal with the increase in the subscription price, unless you are ready to put up with advertisements. And another change has just been revealed.
This Prime Video sharing feature stopped in April 2024
The month of April 2024 will therefore be a period of change on Prime Video. For better or worse, it’s up to you. After the price increase, Amazon and Twitch say they are ending the “Watch Party” feature. An option known as “Cine Sessions” in France. What does it consist of? Thanks to it, streamers could launch a program and watch it at the same time as their viewers. A time to share a film or series together, and make live comments via Twitch chat. To justify the decision, the streaming platform simply explains that the usage rate is not high enough.
“We will be removing the Prime Video Watch Party feature from Twitch on April 2, 2024. We launched it in 2020 to give streamers a way to enjoy content with their communities. Although this feature was included in their lives, the use of Movie Sessions has declined over the years. That’s why we’re removing it and investing in other features.” explains Twitch.
We don’t have any supporting figures to really understand this choice, but it’s already heartbreaking for certain streamers like Will Neff and his 485,000 subscribers. “This marks the end of an unforgettable era. After 3 years and more than 200 films, it’s comforting to say that we have nurtured true cinema enthusiasts. And I want to take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to the incredible team who created the Movie Shows feature. Your exceptional involvement, and the desire to integrate my proposals, really made the difference. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your efforts” (via X and IGN).
