The end of account sharing implemented by Netflix has an even more severe impact on subscribers who have access to the platform through a package offered by Free or Canal+. The latter are indeed deprived of a functionality that is nevertheless central: the addition, as an option, of access to the account by an additional person, outside the main household.
Do you have access to Netflix through a Free or Canal+ offer (among others)? Well know that the platform is even harder with you than with some of its “classic” subscribers concerning the end of account sharing, which was enacted last week in France. We learn fromFreebox Universe that users in this situation are simply deprived of a feature that is central to Netflix’s new policy: the possibility of letting an additional person access their account in exchange for additional billing of 5.99 euros / month .
This is what Netflix specifies in black and white in the latest version of its FAQ. “Additional subscribers cannot be added to offers that include Netflix as an extra or to third-party billed accounts“, explains the firm. As our colleagues point out, the only solution offered to the subscribers concerned is pure and simple profile transfer. Clearly, migrate the profile of a person using the account outside the home to a new subscription of their own.
A possibility also denied to Netflix’s “accessible” formulas
Note, however, that Netflix’s position regarding this paid sharing option also (and unfortunately) extends to the most “accessible” formulas. The “Standard with advertising” (5.99 euros/month) and “Essential” (8.99 euros/month) offers are in fact not eligible, the SVoD platform preferring to reserve the addition of an additional out-of-home account to its “Standard” (13.49 euros/month) and “Premium” (17.99 euros/month) formulas. It is indeed possible to add an additional account outside the home with the first, and a maximum of two with the second… for a subscription then amounting to almost 30 euros per month for the Ultra HD offer.
As a reminder, the end of account sharing is still being implemented on Netflix in France. As Univers Freebox notes, some users still manage to connect to an account they do not hold, but probably not for a very long time. As for the terms of this end of sharing, they focus for the moment on the television and the Wi-Fi network of the user who pays the subscription.
