The English mare Bluestocking, ridden by young jockey Rossa Ryan, triumphed on Sunday at Paris Longchamp by winning the 103rd Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. This victory confirms her as the new galloping world champion.

A Dream Platter

Sixteen of the best thoroughbreds in the world competed on a 2,400 meter course, in very soft terrain. Among them, nine French, three Irish, two English and one Japanese, in front of an enthusiastic crowd, including Prince Albert of Monaco. The event attracted the attention of racing enthusiasts from all over the world.

From the start, the Irish mare Los Angeles, driven by Ryan Moore, took the lead of the race, with Bluestocking, the future winner, in her wake. A few lengths behind, the French favorite Sosie, ridden by Maxime Guyon, galloped freely, ready to seize his chance.

The final assault

Entering the final straight, Los Angeles retained its lead position, but Bluestocking and Sosie quickly began to challenge it. With 300 meters to go, Bluestocking took the lead and quickly broke away, providing a spectacular and irresistible end to the race.

“She was on top all the time,” said Rossa Ryan, the 24-year-old jockey, visibly moved. “Thank you to everyone who trusted me, to coach Ralph Beckett, and of course, thank you to Bluestocking for this incredible performance at the end of the year.” His enthusiasm was palpable as he added: “Thank God, it’s amazing!”

A successful podium

Second place went to the French Aventure, driven by Stéphane Pasquier. English jockey Ryan Moor riding the Irish thoroughbred Los Angeles finished third. This distribution of places highlights the quality of the competitors present.

Bluestocking, who had already shone in the Prix Vermeille in September, was registered late for the Arc, her entourage having had to pay 120,000 euros for her participation. His triumph brought him 2,857,000 euros, out of a total of 5 million euros in allocation, thanks to sponsorship from Qatar.

With her bay (brown) coat, Bluestocking has not only made racing history, but she also has a broodmare career waiting for her at stud. Her success at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe makes her an exceptional mare, with a bright future in breeding.
