the eSIM opens up to more people

Free mobile now allows its existing subscribers to migrate to an eSIM plan. Until now, only new subscribers of the operator could subscribe to it.

With nearly two years of delay, Free finally allows its subscribers to migrate to a virtual SIM card, the famous eSIM technology popularized, among others, by the latest generations of iPhone. Until now, only new subscribers of the operator could claim the eSIM. Existing subscribers had to settle for a traditional SIM formula… this inequity should gradually disappear, we are told Freebox Universe.

However, the specialized site reports that this switch from a classic SIM to an eSIM offer cannot yet be done directly from the Free Mobile subscriber area. You have to go through the operator’s customer service on WhatsApp, or through Free Proxi customer service for subscribers who have access to it.

Costs to be expected to switch to eSIM

Unsurprisingly, costs are to be expected to switch from a traditional SIM card to a dematerialized card. In this case, interested Free subscribers will have to pay 10 euros, the price of a classic SIM card at Free, recalls Univers Freebox. The activation of the eSIM is done for the rest quite easily, by passing (after the order) by the heading “My SIM orders” from the subscriber area.

Also works via the Free Proxi customer service, available in the Free Mobile subscriber area, My Assistance section!

A QR code is displayed there, all that remains is to scan it with the target smartphone to activate the eSIM there. However, a confirmation code will be requested to finalize the procedure; procedure which will result in the download of the eSIM. The download time is brief, a few minutes at most, but the installation may however involve restarting the smartphone.

Through this novelty, Free Mobile is catching up with certain competitors, such as Orange, who embraced the eSIM earlier and on a larger scale.
