the ex of the madman had alerted

Three gendarmes were killed last week while trying to rescue a woman victim of domestic violence. The former companion of the author of the facts testifies and says to have launched "dozens" of alerts on his dangerousness.

On the night of December 22 to 23, 2020, Arno Mavel, Cyrille Morel and Rémi Dupuis, three gendarmes, were killed in Saint-Just (Puy-de-Dôme). A fourth gendarme was injured during the intervention, aimed at protecting a woman victim of domestic violence committed by Frédéric L. This Saturday, the ex-companion of the madman testified, claiming to have warned several times about the dangerousness of his former companion, father of his child.

This woman met Frédéric L in 2011, and their relationship changed dramatically a year later. "We got married. The next day, or two days later, he destroyed everything in the apartment. He tried to strangle me, he stuck me to the wall", she tells France Télévisions. Her ex-spouse then becomes a survivalist, sends her a military radio the day of her childbirth "because the end is near", buys weapons … Victim of kidnappings and threats with weapons, she runs away, then pregnant of their child, whom he will also threaten with death. "It's in the family closed-door, of two parents who separate with a child. So it's word against word", she recalls. She lodged a complaint twice, and was reportedly answered: "Madam, you have lodged a complaint, you have started the divorce proceedings, you just have to wait for justice to do its work".

Nearby Dauphiné Liberated, this woman adds : "I thought he would kill us all". "I had issued alerts, dozens! I knew he was dangerous", she says. She would also have written to Marlène Schiappa, then Secretary of State in charge of equality between women and men, in vain."Today, there are four orphans, if I had been able to make myself heard, we would not have come to this. I have tried everything", she laments.

When she was taught the drama, she was not surprised: "It's a surprise that he attacked the gendarmes. But I had made my will in fact. It's just a waste. It could only end in a murder (…) It's individual madness but there has been collective blindness ", she told France Télévisions. A situation which is far from extraordinary, according to Anne-Cécile Mailfert, founder of the Women's Foundation, interviewed by France 2: "We must salute the courage of thousands of women who file a complaint and reveal the violence suffered. This is not an isolated case. We ask them to wait, we tell them that the gentleman will calm down, that the complaints follow their Classes". It therefore calls for strong measures to be taken: "In reality, justice is too slow, the police too contemptuous. Violent men are dangerous for women and society. We must take alerts seriously. We must identify the dysfunctions. No investigation has been made public on feminicides. We must take action, we need political will. These individuals are extremely determined, we cannot be satisfied with measuring sticks ".

"No, an abusive spouse cannot be a good father"
