On October 6, Google showed off its new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in detail. If they do not present any major new hardware, they still manage to innovate on the software side, with in particular new features based on artificial intelligence. The most interesting is certainly the Super Rez Zoom (or super resolution zoom) which could revolutionize the way the photo modules of our smartphones are designed.

Examples of Super Ground Zoom

As a reminder, the Pixel 7 Pro is equipped with a main sensor of 50 Megapixels, an ultra-wide-angle of 12 Mpx and a telephoto x5 of 48 Mpx. By cropping in these different sensors and using algorithms upscalingthe Pixel 7 Pro is thus able to offer focal lengths x2, x5, x10 and even up to x30 with increased quality.

That’s the theory, but in practice, what does it really look like? Well to give us an overview, Google has published a photo album of snapshots taken with the Pixel 7 Pro and the least we can say is that it is very impressive.

The first set in Manhattan begins in wide-angle (x0.5) to end with the x30 zoom. The wide shot of the city ends with a close-up of the aerial of the Freedom Tower.

The second set of images shows a view of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge that’s a bit different than you’d normally see.

In addition to these photographs demonstrating the quality of the Super Rez Zoom algorithms, additional photos are available in the Google Photos album. Enough to make you want to take advantage of pre-order offers on these new Pixel 7s.
