the executive inflates its package of measures planned for the summer

Government spokesman Gabriel Attal during his press conference after the Council of Ministers on May 11, 2022, in Paris.

Hit it hard, at least in terms of ads. Government spokesman Gabriel Attal clarified, Wednesday, May 11, the content of the “purchasing power package” which must respond to the persistent surge in prices for several months. And this is more than what was anticipated so far.

The amending finance bill (PLFR), which will be debated by the new majority this summer, will in fact not only contain measures and increases intended to curb the effects of rising energy, fuel and food, as well as the tripling of the “Macron bonus”. But it will also include electoral promises from Emmanuel Macron which were not expected so quickly, such as the abolition of the audiovisual license fee and a reduction in social security contributions for the self-employed. A more ambitious package than expected therefore, which should allow the executive to maintain the political advantage one month before the legislative elections of 12 and 19 June, while the new government is still waiting, slowing down the creation of a real majority momentum.

The examination of the text in Parliament is planned “in the wake of the legislative elections”, recalled Gabriel Attal. But “we can very well make a political communication to the French in two or three weeks, once the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Economy have been appointed, in order to announce more precisely the amount of aid and revaluations”, we slip in Bercy. So many arguments to put forward for the majority candidates who will be campaigning in the coming month.

In detail, the text will extend the price shield on gas and electricity prices until the end of 2022 (it was to end in the summer), as well as the discount of 18 cents per liter on fuel, who has “intended to be replaced by a sustainable and targeted system” for large rollers, specifies the report of the Council of Ministers.

Removal of the fee

The text will also allow employers to triple the Macron bonus (up to 6,000 euros), it will act on the thawing of the civil service index point, the early revaluation on 1er July social minima and pensions (indexed to inflation), as well as the establishment of a food check whose outlines are still unclear. Added to this will be the abolition of the contribution to public broadcasting, so that it is effective this year, and the reduction in contributions for the self-employed, for a gain of 550 euros per year at the level of the minimum wage.
