The Fantastic Four: John Malkovich joins Marvel’s hero cast

• “The Fantastic Four” brings the popular group of heroes of the same name back to the screen.

The Fantastic Four are returning to the big screen. In “The Fantastic Four”, Marvel’s quartet of heroes is this time portrayed by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn.

The Fantastic Four: Start

“The Fantastic Four” starts on 24.07.2025 in German cinemas. In the US, the film will be released one day later, as the official X-account of Marvel Studios tweeted on Valentine’s Day 2024.

So far, “The Fantastic Four” doesn’t have a trailer. However, for “4-4 Day,” Marvel released a new poster that shows the living torch, played by “Stranger Things” star Joseph Quinn, for the first time.

The Fantastic Four: Plot

“The Fantastic Four” will be set in the 1960s, just like the comic book that was published in 1961. The film tells the story of four characters who were exposed to cosmic rays during a scientific mission in space. As a result, the two researchers Reed Richards and Susan Storm, Susan’s brother Johnny Storm and the spaceship pilot Ben Grimm develop extraordinary abilities.

Reed becomes “Mister Fantastic”, who can stretch his body to incredible lengths and shapes. Sue is able to make herself invisible and project force fields, which is why she is known as “The Invisible One” from now on. Johnny is “The Human Torch” and can not only create flames, but also fly through them. Ben has developed superhuman strength, which turns his skin to stone and earns him the heroic name “The Thing”.

As a group of heroes called “The Fantastic Four,” they try to use their newly acquired abilities to help humanity, but they also struggle with their new lives.

The Fantastic Four: Cast

The Fantastic Four are portrayed in “The Fantastic Four” by Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”), Vanessa Kirby (“The Crown”), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear”) and Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things”).

Pedro Pascal will play the scientist Dr. Reed Nathaniel Richards aka “Mister Fantastic”, his fiancée Dr. Susan “Sue” Storm aka “The Invisible Woman” will be played by Vanessa Kirby. The living torch “Human Torch” Johnny Storm will be played by Joseph Quinn, Benjamin Grimm aka “The Thing” will be played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

There will also be a special change in the cast at the start of the film. The heroes’ famous opponent, the Silver Surfer, will be played by actress Julia Garner (“Ozark”) in “The Fantastic Four”.

Actor John Malkovich (“The New Look”) has just been announced for the cast of “The Fantastic Four”. Who he will play is still a secret, however.

The Fantastic Four: Production

“The Fantastic Four” is based on the comic book series “The Fantastic Four” from 1961. The idea for the group of heroes came from Marvel veteran Stan Lee and his co-author and illustrator Jack Kirby.

The film is directed by Matt Shakman (“WandaVision”). The screenplay was written by Josh Friedman (“Foundation”), Jeff Kaplan (“The Last of the Great Romantics”) and Ian Springer (“The Last of the Great Romantics”).

The story of the Fantastic Four has already been made into a film several times without success. “The Fantastic Four” is intended to break this spell and finally help the group of heroes to achieve success on the big screen. The Marvel film has a good approach to this, because unlike its predecessors, the action this time is not set in the modern era, but rather takes place in the 1960s, just like the comics. The unusual setting provides an exciting starting point from which great things can emerge.
