the firm is already preparing for the arrival of AI in the office suite

Artificial intelligence in Microsoft 365 is coming soon. During its official conference to present the integration of Copilot in its office suite, the Redmond company did not provide a precise date for the deployment of the latter. Nevertheless, the project is progressing, as evidenced by the addition of some system files and processes on Windows.

A few weeks ago, Microsoft held a conference event, during which the firm presented its AI projects within Microsoft 365. It is, concretely, a small revolution that awaits users with the arrival of Copilot, this small tool boosted with machine learning that is already found in Edge. However, no sheet was provided that day, the manufacturer merely announcing deployment for the coming months.

This does not mean that things are not progressing, quite the contrary. Indeed, by digging a little in the installation folder of Microsoft 365, our colleagues from Windows Latest have discovered the appearance of new executable files, baptized ai.exe, aimgr.exe and ai.dllI. We also find the trace of these files in the task manager, with the “Artificial Intelligence Host” processes executed in Word.

AI is slowly coming to Microsoft 365

For the time being, there is no element to confirm that these additions are related to the announcements around Copilot. However, the timing speaks for itself. As Windows Latest explains, all these elements communicate with each other as well as with the mlg.dll library, responsible for processing the user’s text inputs. In other words, it looks a lot like features allowed by GPT.

It is still early to predict a deployment date for Copilot within Microsoft 365. But it is clear that the project is progressing and that Microsoft is probably testing its technology. We are therefore not immune to seeing some new arrivals in the sequel in a few weeks, ahead of an official launch, hopefully by this summer. We will keep you informed of the news in this area.
