The first beta version of Android 14 is here: news, compatibility and installation

As much to warn you: the new features of Android 14 Beta 1 are not major. However, this first beta is available for Pixel phones.

After a few Developer Previews of Android 14, Google rolled out the first update Android 14 Beta 1 for all compatible Pixel smartphones. On an official blog post, Google again emphasized the importance of support for devices of all shapes and sizes, including foldable smartphones and tablets.

They introduce a smarter system user interface “with improvements” that you might notice as early as Beta 1 “. They also highlighted a new share sheet where apps can add custom actions, and new graphical features for developers (like morph and tween effects). According to Google, the gesture navigation experience now includes a back arrow (which we already knew from the DP versions) more visible when interacting with an application, in order to improve the understanding and usefulness of the feedback gestures. This arrow will match your wallpaper or device theme.

As you can see, the schedule has not changed. Beta versions will follow one another in the coming weeks, with a final version scheduled for this fall.
