Last year, Xiaomi hit hard by launching the MIX Fold 2, the thinnest foldable smartphone in the world at the time of its release. The latter was quickly challenged in this area by Honor devices, but it was still one of the best in its class. In our handling, we also greatly appreciated its design and its power. However, the photo part was a bit disappointing.

Xiaomi could well correct the situation this year with its MIX Fold 3, which will be launched this month. Before its official release, the smartphone has probably already been unveiled thanks to a stolen photo captured using a Xiaomi 13 Pro.

The Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 will have one more photo sensor than the Galaxy Z Fold 5

In the photo, taken from a Chinese sales site, we can see that the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 still uses a horizontal photo module placed at the very top of the smartphone. However, unlike the generation that had 3 cameras, the new model uses 4 photo sensors. Xiaomi can also always count on the collaboration of Leica, since we always find the logo of the photography expert on the right side.

Using 4 cameras instead of just three should make the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 much more versatile than the previous generation. However, adding a sensor is not synonymous with better overall photo quality.

Indeed, a new photo sensor will reduce the space available inside the device, and could therefore force Xiaomi to reduce the size of the other cameras, thus perhaps reducing their performance. However, we know that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 can capture much better shots than the previous generation.

It therefore remains to be seen whether or not this choice will allow Xiaomi to offer better photo performance with this new iteration of its foldable smartphone, and thus compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5. As a reminder, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 should not be released in Francebut it is not impossible that the Chinese manufacturer decides to launch the next generation with us.
