A few days ago, a patent filed by Apple hinted at the possibility of reading text messages with your voice. The latest patent, published last Tuesday, very clearly reveals a folding device. If it can be a smartphone as well as a tablet, the patent also describes ” a technology that would allow users to touch multiple parts of a device, not just the screen, to perform functions “. As it stands, it’s true that a folding tablet raises a lot of questions about weight and ergonomics, furthering the iPhone lead.
Will Apple follow in the footsteps of Samsung and other manufacturers of folding smartphones? For now, nothing is less certain. The Californian company’s plans would not launch an iPad this year in favor of a folding model for next year. But, given the relative progress of the folding smartphone market, we are not immune to a surprise from the Apple brand for the months and years to come. To claim that the iPhone 14 is just a marginally improved iPhone 13 isn’t entirely true…nor false, for that matter. If it inherits the appearance and the screen of its elder, it recovers the SoC of the iPhone 13 Pro (and its more powerful GPU). The back camera changes little at the hardware level, but now benefits from the new Photonic Engine which improves the quality of images in low light.
More interesting for selfie fans, the front camera gains autofocus which ensures sharp images and has the cinematic mode which switches to 4K. Video capture benefits from an ultra-stabilized “action” mode that we consider successful.
Finally, the device improves the safety of its owner thanks to the detection of car accidents as well as the possibility of sending a distress message by satellite (in the United States only for the moment). Can we reasonably advise this iPhone 13S which does not say its name? Yes, if you are sensitive to its novelties or if you want to switch from an old model (iPhone X and earlier) to a state-of-the-art iPhone.
If these few new features leave you cold, turn instead to the iPhone 13, still in the catalog and whose price will be a little lower (between 110 and 150 euros less, depending on the model).
Sold at 1,019, 1,149 or 1,409 euros (128, 256 and 512 GB versions) in France, the entry ticket is high. Very high. Especially since Apple no longer considers it useful to provide a charger with the device. On the other side of the Atlantic, the price is significantly lower.
