The Forces' Sweetheart: British singer Vera Lynn has passed away

The British singer, Dame Vera Lynn (1917-2020), passed away with her family on Thursday morning (June 18), as reported by "Mail Online", citing a family statement. The "We'll Meet Again" interpreter was 103 years old. It was this song that made her popular with British troops during the Second World War. She was nicknamed "The Forces' Sweetheart".

"Charm" and a "magical voice"

Even after the war, the London-born artist enjoyed great popularity in Great Britain. The grief is now correspondingly great. Prime Minister Boris Johnson (55) praised Vera Lynn's "charm and magical voice" that "enchanted and raised the country in some of our darkest hours".

Dame Vera Lynn is survived by her daughter Virginia (born 1946), who came from a marriage (1941-1988) to the musician Harry Lewis, who died in 1988.
