The Forgotten Prince on TF1: what does the film have in common with The Lord of the Rings?

Broadcast this evening on TF1, “The Forgotten Prince”, a fantastic comedy by Michel Hazanavicius carried by Omar Sy and Bérénice Béjo, hides a small point in common with Peter Jackson’s trilogy. Do you know which one?

Broadcast tonight on TF1, The Forgotten Prince – a fantastic tale for the whole family – follows the adventures of a valiant hero, the protagonist of the stories told by Djibi (Omar Sy) to his daughter Sofia to put her to sleep at night. But when the latter returns to college and meets new people, the Prince suddenly loses his importance in the story, and will therefore do everything to find his place.

At first glance, nothing connects this touching fantasy comedy directed by Michel Hazanavicius to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson in the early 2000s.

However, provided you listen sufficiently or open your eyes during the final credits, you will realize that, like The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King, the The Forgotten Prince’s soundtrack was composed by a certain… Howard Shore.

After having previously collaborated with the Frenchman Ludovic Bource on the first two OSS 117 and on The Artist, Hazanavicius has therefore chosen here to call on the twice Oscar-winning Canadian composer, also famous for having written the scores for feature films such as La Mouche, Le Silence des Agneaux, Seven, King Kong, Gangs of New York and Les Infiltrés.

“I thought Howard would be totally unapproachable because he was too busy, but the script touched him a lot and he liked what I had done as a director”thus confided Michel Hazanavicius to the Cinezik site.

“Until now, Howard has been more known for dramatic or tense scores but he has already composed lighter things and I like his approach which is always to take an interest in the first degree of the character by managing to produce an emotion thanks to his melodies.”
