the former boss of the license targeted by serious accusations

According to the creator of Sonic, the former producer of the Dragon Quest license is a liar who was dishonest in court. He accuses him on the networks.

To understand how Sonic’s dad came to hate this man, we have to go back to last June. You may remember that Yuji Naka, co-creator of Sonic and former president of Sonic Team, was accused of insider trading. This is the fraudulent use of information to make lucrative stock market transactions. In his case, it’s his maneuvering around the games Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier and Dragon Quest Tact, which he was developing with Square Enix, which caused legal problems. The man allegedly bought $18,000 worth of stock from the studio, then sold it once the game became a success.

The problem is that the software was not yet officially announced at the time. “Naka took unfair advantage of a position more advantageous than that of the investors and thus undermined market fairness”, explained the Tokyo court. Ultimately, the man was sentenced to two years and six months in prison. He had to pay a fine of two million yen (12,000 euros). The story could have ended there, but after several months of calm, Sonic’s father decided to break the silence by accusing Yu Miyage, the producer of Dragon Quest, for being a liar.

Dragon Quest: a liar on the team?

At Square Enix, there is a lot of movement among developers. Yuji Naka’s accusations couldn’t come at a worse time. As part of a major reorganization of the company, certain positions are evolving, such as that of Yu Miyage. The man who led Dragon Quest as a producer for many years has been transferred to the mobile games sector. Something that doesn’t please Yuji Naka at all, who fumes and would really prefer to see Miyage disappear from the landscape, but somehow he is happy with the news.

According to Naka, Miyage lied when he was supposed to testify in the insider trading trial. This would have saved him from the situation, while Sonic’s creator would have gained media attention. “He’s the type of person who lies in court (there is evidence). I think it would be better if he disappears soon”he wrote on X. To date, no one has reacted to Yuji Naka’s very aggressive accusations. And to conclude his tackle, the man even finished he then congratulated the arrival of Takashi Kiryu as president of Square Enix, to direct Dragon Quest 12, which “seems like a good person“.
