The founder of Huda Beauty protests against beauty standards

The stars of the beauty world have a definite influence on their community and when they use them for a good cause, we validate! Yesterday, it was American blogger Huda Kattan who claimed her body-positive vision of beauty in one of her latest Instagram posts.

With the rise of beauty trends like lips and very luscious curves à la Kim Kardashian and the trivialization of photo editing on photos posted on social networks, it is sometimes difficult for everyone to have a clear idea what a real face looks like without retouching or makeup, natural skin or a body that hasn't been flattered by the magical effects of retouching software.
Result: reality and its edited version end up blending in our minds, and are at the origin of the installation of sometimes unattainable standards of beauty that create a whole lot of complexes in people and establish a biased vision of what is the beauty of a body or a face.
By dint of being bludgeoned with deceptive images throughout the day on social media, we have to admit that we get harder and harder on ourselves when the time comes. '' evaluate our own beauty in the mirror by comparing it to what we know and especially to what we see on a daily basis.

It is to make her community aware of this that Huda Kattan, the creator of the very famous make-up brand Huda Beauty, decided to post two versions of a photo of her in tight sportswear ( leopard bra and leggings) on a beach in Dubai that compare her real body and unretouched face to her body and face retouched to current beauty standards, as well as a video showing even more drastically the impact of this famous photo retouching on the initial shot. A fun way to showcase what is going on daily on social networks in order to give us a little reminder, and the perfect opportunity for the American who has built a cosmetic empire to speak out on said beauty standards that influence us on a daily basis.

In the caption of these photos and video, the make-up artist and founder of three now essential beauty brands (Huda Beauty on the makeup side, Wishful on the skin care side and Kayali for perfumes) explains: “Unedited VS retouched. Retouching like this is why I think we have to stay natural and be transparent so that people understand the difference between what's real and what's fake and don't believe in an unattainable standard of beauty. I have been in this space for a long time and I myself felt tremendous pressure to retouch my photos and try to adjust to this virtual idea of the perfect body. I'm learning to feel good about myself and hope you can join me on this journey. Love you all so much @huda ”

An inspiring message in which Huda Kattan invites us to love and accept each other as we are by questioning the standards of beauty conveyed through social networks and their perfect (but retouched) photos which have the unfortunate tendency to promote unreal bodies with smooth photoshoped contours (on which we therefore rarely see the reality of the skin bulges that naturally form with body movements and other less glamorous details, regardless of the morphology). The post already counts 864,678 Love as of this writing.

This is not the first time that Huda Kattan has championed his vision body positive of beauty. The influencer does not hesitate to be unfiltered on social networks and has even taken advantage of the launch of her brand of skincare Wishful a year ago, to unveil campaign visuals that show off her skin naturally. This time, she calls out her community more directly to speak out on this societal problem that affects us all from near and far, and we welcome her initiative.

We love Glossier's new body positive campaign (with unretouched photos)!
