There Freebox Pop may soon receive a hardware update. This new version of the Free general public box would notably include the presence of Wi-Fi 7 for ever faster speeds.

Free has been making waves for several days with the presentation of its latest internet box, the Freebox Ultra. This new high-end, fully fiber box offers as its main novelty the arrival of the Wi-Fi 7 standard, a world first as Xavier Niel proudly recalled during the announcement. If the Freebox Ultra stands out as the top of the basket in terms of internet boxes from the operator, the Freebox Pop does not seem to be forgotten. Better yet: Free seems to be preparing a new version of its small general public box which would add many new features.

Wi-Fi 7 for the Freebox Pop?

It’s the always very knowledgeable @TiinoX83 on the operator.

The first novelty would therefore be the integration of Wi-Fi 7 into the box. This new wireless standard allows faster speeds, up to 6 Gbit/s. Unlike the Freebox Ultra, this Freebox Pop 2024 will not offer a 6 GHz frequency, and will be satisfied with a 2.4 GHz 2×2 band and a 5 GHz 2×2 band.

This Freebox Pop would also be a 100% fiber box, with the disappearance of the RJ11 DSL port. The router would only integrate one 2.5 Gbit/s Ethernet port and two 1 Gbit/s Ethernet ports.

A 100% fiber box with an on/off button

The Freebox Pop vintage 2024 would also have other additions to make in the case of a migration or change of box. Free could offer a wall mounting system with this new router. It would thus be possible to place the device on the wall rather than on a piece of furniture.

We can also note the presence of an on/off button, a new feature introduced with the Freebox Ultra. After being reluctant to integrate a power button into its internet boxes, Free finally converted to the latter for ecological considerations. This will allow you to cut the box more easily if you leave the house for several days.

Finally, we can note the presence of a USB 3.0 port, which will allow you to connect a hard drive and enjoy its photo and video content from Free applications.

For the moment, no announcement has been made by Free concerning the release date of this next Freebox Pop. There is no doubt that the announcement is in the pipeline and that we will only have to wait a few weeks to see this new box appear on the Free website and in its physical points of sale.

Freebox Pop test: is Free’s general public box at the top?

Launched in 2020 to complement the high-end offer of the Freebox Delta with a more affordable box, the Freebox Pop breaks with the riot of features of the Delta and the Revolution before it to return somewhere to the fundamentals. And in the ISP’s range, it is today an interesting offer, without being devoid of faults.
