The Freebox Ultra will finally be entitled to a new dedicated player and perhaps other surprises

It seems that Free has kept some in hand after its conference presenting the Freebox Ultra. Indeed, we learned today that a new dedicated player is in preparation and should soon replace that of the Freebox Pop. Enough to imagine other surprises, such as home automation.

Freebox Ultra

Yesterday, Free finally made its big splash in the world of telecoms by unveiling its Freebox Ultra. The brand new box, not content with being the first in France to be compatible with WiFi 7, also offers the fastest fiber in France, with a start of up to 8 Gbits/s. If the revolution is already underway, it still seems that the operator did not say everything during his event.

Indeed, if everyone was delighted to learn that Canal+ is included at no additional cost in the Freebox Ultra subscription, the question of the player naturally arose among subscribers. What about the Freebox Pop 4K TV Player, the latest one? Is it here to stay or is it destined to be replaced? Questions which were finally answered thanks to our colleagues at Univers Freebox.

The Freebox Ultra will be entitled to its dedicated player

Indeed, Xavier Niel confirmed to the media that a new player is indeed in preparation. On the other hand, this is the only information that the CEO of Free was willing to give away. No details on the design, the launch date, or even the applications that it will include at present. As a reminder, the Freebox Pop and its player were released simultaneously. We can therefore hope that that of the Freebox Ultra will not take too long to arrive.

Does this mean that Free still has a few surprises in store for its latest box? Everything is possible. In an interview with BFM TV, Xavier Niel notably raised the issue of home automation, without going into detail. An indiscretion which, however, allows you to start dreaming of other features that would be added in the future.
