The French are downloading Threads en masse, but it’s not the right application

The new social network similar to Twitter, launched by Mark Zuckerberg and his Meta group, attracts many French people. But they are not always aware that they are actually downloading an artificial intelligence app of the same name.

While France is still deprived of Threads, the competitor of Twitter developed by Instagram, the worldwide enthusiasm around this new application launched in 100 countries and which has already 100 million users in five days, has nevertheless won our territory. . So much so that some of our fellow citizens make mistakes and unknowingly download the wrong application.

While it’s still possible to use Threads in France — but installing it, the app isn’t available on the French App Store and Play Store, due to European data protection laws. This therefore complicates its access, especially if you do not know how to go about it.

But the announcement of a competitor to Elon Musk’s declining Twitter was such that some French people, not necessarily aware that Threads was not available in France, went to the App Store anyway to download and test the famous application, which could seriously compete with Twitter.

Do not confuse Threads and Threads

On iOS in France, there is indeed an application called Threads for Insta. But, when you look at it, it’s actually a generative AI application that allows you to create threads, precisely to post them on Instagram and have more visibility. Except that many have been mistaken (especially since the two logos look alike) in thinking that this is the new application that everyone is talking about right now.

Having the same name as Meta’s new social network seems to be a good thing, since Threads for Insta, the previously unknown AI app, is on July 10 the 4th most downloaded app in France on iOS. And, in the social networks category, the application is even at the top of downloads, ahead of WhatsApp, BeReal or Facebook. A way to ride the almost misleading Threads trend? In any case, these figures confirm the enthusiasm in France for the new migroblogging app, which was launched on July 6.
