Could inflation have foiled the plans of the various video streaming platforms?

Well, unexpectedly, the answer is no.

When the number of subscriptions to Netflix increases…

For several years now, the weariness of the French vis-à-vis Netflix has been felt. Subscribers regularly point out the lack of originality of the content on the platform, which has struggled to renew itself in recent years. Nearly ten years after its first steps, Netflix now sits in the leading position with no less than 63% of French people who have access to the service (compared to 61% the previous year). The giant is followed by Amazon Prime Video (included in the Prime subscription) which manages to attract 49% of the French population in 2023, compared to 43% in 2022. Thank you The Last of Us ? Anyway, while 55% of French people considered Netflix to be essential in 2022, according to a survey carried out by OpinionWay last February, only one out of two French people is now of this opinion.

… but that fewer and fewer subscribers are satisfied

In a recent study conducted by Bearing Point, we can learn that if they were 55% to be “very satisfied” with Netflix in 2022, it is now “only” 49%. At the same time, the dissatisfaction rate has risen from 2% to 5% in 2023. In comparison with the competition, these data are obviously to be put into perspective. The dissatisfaction rates are, for example, significantly higher on the side of Amazon Prime Video (12%) and Apple TV+ (19%). However, the figures speak for themselves: if Netflix has seen its number of subscribers increase in recent months, it has also seen the annoyance of its customers grow.

As a reminder, the American platform recently implemented the end of the account sharing system. If we could legitimately expect a sharp drop in the number of subscribers, the opposite seems to be happening (despite some cancellations): in the space of just two days, no less than 100,000 people have joined the service in the United States. Obviously, we will now have to wait wisely to measure the impact of this new policy over time.

  • The most complete on the market
  • Often excellent original series
  • Impeccable video compression

The American service is not the most popular in the world for nothing. With an offer of content enriched each week, an always optimal video quality and a very worked user experience, the platform is an essential choice for entertainment. Our only regret remains the constant increase in subscription prices, which makes the service a little less attractive than when it was launched… Fortunately, the number of series and films compensates for this increase, even if the quality or the certainty of seeing arriving new seasons is not always there.
