The French are still divided (but a little less) according to this survey

According to a survey carried out by Ifop, the approval of the French concerning medically assisted procreation (MAP) and surrogacy (Surrogacy) appears to be in the majority.

While the bioethics bill returns to the National Assembly on Monday, June 7, 2021 for a new reading (the PMA for all women), Ifop unveils a survey entitled The French, the PMA and the vote on the bioethics law , commissioned by the Association of Homoparental Families. According to the results, 67% of French people are in favor of its introduction in the case of female couples, and the same statistics support the opening of the system to the advantage of single women.

As for surrogacy (Surrogacy), the population also seems to have changed their outlook on the subject. 53% are open there for homosexual couples and 66% are ready to validate the principle of the surrogate mother to give birth to heterosexual couples.

A change of look

Through these survey results, we can observe a notable and profound change in the way French society views homoparentality. In fact, by way of comparison, in January 1990, an Ifop survey revealed that only 24% of French people were in favor of opening assisted reproduction to all women. In 2004, the opinion became timidly in the majority with 51% of people in favor. Today, they are 67%. The deputies responsible for this new reading in the National Assembly will not be able to ignore such support from public opinion.

The opinion on surrogacy, which has historically always divided society, is a revealing element as to the reversal of the French prism. This practice, which is based on the intermediary of a surrogate mother, is not only not part of the bioethics bill, but the exchanges to which it gave rise have even confirmed its prohibition in French law. According to the Ifop survey, however, opinion has changed: 53% of French people say they are in favor of surrogacy for homosexual couples and 47% against. A rather spectacular rise, since in 2014, 59% of French people did not want to hear about it and 52% in 2019. We continue to believe that one day, mentalities will change for good!
