It has now been three years since Renault took over from Peugeot as automotive partner of the Roland-Garros tennis tournament. As the competition begins on May 20, the manufacturer is unveiling a special R5 E-Tech Roland-Garros series of its future electric city car.
Three years ago, Peugeot passed the torch to Renault as partner of the famous Roland-Garros tennis tournament. In this context, the manufacturer revealed a special edition of its electric Renault 5 E-Tech, designed specifically for this event.
Presented for the first time to the world during the tournament, which will take place from May 20 to June 9, 2024, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric Roland-Garros will however only be available for sale from 2025.
Renault 5 E-Tech Roland-Garros, a special edition
This special series can be recognized by its distinguished appearance which is directly inspired by the atmosphere of the tournament. It is offered in four
distinct colors: pearl white, night blue, star black and an exclusive matte shale gray. The nuances are complemented by special 18-inch rims, called “Nut”, which feature a central lens matching the bodywork.
On the doors, a Roland-Garros logo is subtly integrated into a “Saint Andrew’s cross” motif, recalling the emblematic architecture of the tennis stadium. The roof of the car is covered in a textured coating in satin black, which adds an extra touch of elegance.
Custom interior
Inside, the Roland-Garros edition of the Renault 5 offers upholstery in light gray fabric, 100% recycled, inspired by technical sports clothing, with openwork mesh areas and blue TEP side reinforcements. The front seats proudly bear the thermo-embossed Roland-Garros logo, a pattern that can also be found on the door panels and the blue TEP dashboard strip.
The dashboard itself abandons the traditional lacquered black for a satin metal finish, and features a backlit area with the inscription “Roland-Garros Paris”. A delicate detail under the passenger air vent depicts embroidery in blue, white and ocher, a tribute to the tournament’s clay courts. The center console includes an induction charging mat made with clay powder, reinforcing the thematic link with Roland-Garros.
Although the precise technical details have not yet been revealed, the standard version of the Renault 5 E-Tech, expected on the roads in autumn 2024, will be offered with two battery options, 40 kWh and 52 kWh, with a range of 300 to 400 kilometers. The base model should be marketed at a price below 25,000 euros, but this “accessible” version will not arrive before 2025.
