The Galaxy S23 could finally ditch the Exynos chips for a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2


After using homemade Exynos processors that were mostly disappointing, Samsung could finally ditch its own chips and equip its next smartphones only with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips.

Like every year, the Galaxy S22 smartphones of 2022 used Exynos chips rather than Snadragon in certain markets, including France in particular. Samsung’s choice to use several processors in smartphones that bear the same name has often been criticized by usersand in particular those of the markets entitled to Exynos fleas.

In fact, it has been several years since Samsung’s processors are significantly less efficient than Qualcomm’s. The latest Exynos 2200, for example, is less efficient than a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This has the consequence, for example, of making the European Galaxy S22s less interesting than the Galaxy S22s sold on the American market, which use Qualcomm chips.

Samsung would only use Snapdragon chips in the Galaxy S23

In a new tweet, the famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicated that Qualcomm could become the sole supplier for Galaxy S23 chips, compared to 70% currently on the S22. Indeed, Samsung would have decided not to equip its future flagship smartphone with an Exynos 2300 processor, because the latter is not able to compete with the next Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which will be unveiled next November by Qualcomm.

Samsung’s Galaxy S23s could therefore be significantly more efficient than the current Galaxy S22s on the French market, since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips of the new smartphones will benefit from TSMC’s advanced 4 nm engraving, which is currently used in the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 of the Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro and 12S Ultra.

According to recent statements from leaker Ice Universe, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will emphasize GPU performance, without forgetting to improve photo and CPU performance. However, the chip would above all be much more energy efficient, and therefore above all less prone to overheating, the main fear of smartphones released at the start of the year. It is also expected that the autonomy of high-end devices that will use it is greatly improved.
