On eBay, GeForce RTX 4080 listings are far fewer than GeForce RTX 4090 listings.

Particularly active on the previous generation of NVIDIA cards, the famous RTX 3000s, scalpers are now turning to the RTX 4000s, with however a certain imbalance between the two models available.

I scalp, you scalp, he scalps…

The phenomenon of scalpers is not new, but with the crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been able to see how harmful it can be for the balance of a market. It was then impossible to buy a GeForce RTX 3000 card from resellers, but ads abounded on eBay.

These announcements were obviously not intended to help unfortunate users looking for a graphics card: the prices charged were two to three times higher than the retail prices recommended by NVIDIA’s partners for their cards.

Unfortunately, the announcement of the GeForce RTX 4000 only calmed things down for a few weeks, and it is now almost impossible to get your hands on a card, whether it is RTX 4080 or 4090. once again, scalpers took a good share of the models marketed.

3.4 RTX 4090 for 1 RTX 4080 sold on eBay

Our colleagues from Tom’s Hardware however, have just published a study that will make anti-scalpers smile. While the RTX 4090 listings on eBay suggest the card is a good deal for scalpers, the RTX 4080 is quite a different story.

Tom’s Hardware evokes very low eBay sales for the RTX 4080. It is largely overwhelmed by the RTX 4090, whose sales eclipse those of the youngest by 3.4 to 1. Our colleagues have thus calculated that on eBay USA, it is was selling an average of 8 RTX 4080s per day.

A number that Tom’s Hardware judged weak, with no sign of racing: since the release of the RTX 4080, the sales curve ” is flat, even declining ” on eBay, and this, while the price of these occasions is “only” 30% higher than the MSRP, when it was 54% higher at the launch of the RTX 4090.

Unsurprisingly, the most popular RTX 4080 model with scalpers is none other than NVIDIA’s Founders Edition, the only one selling at the MSP for $1,199 at the time of its press conference. New proof, if it were needed, that the RTX 4080s at 1,800 euros are to be avoided…
