There is obviously no question of “normal” consumption for the spearhead of the new NVIDIA range.
Card of all the excesses, the new GeForce RTX 4090 whose tests will not fall before next October 11, seems to have to crush all forms of competition both in terms of performance and power consumption!
Boost frequency of 2.52 GHz…
Designed around NVIDIA’s new Ada Lovelace architecture, the GeForce RTX 4090 is not yet available, but its technical specifications are no longer a secret to anyone.
Officially, the graphics card is therefore announced for a so-called frequency boost 2520 MHz and a default TGP of 450 Watts which prompted NVIDIA to recommend a power supply of at least 850 W for the PC that will accommodate its baby.
On paper, these values are impressive, but in reality they do not differ that much from what the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti offered… except that the latter had to settle for 1,860 MHz for a 450 W TGP and a power supply of 850 W. So progress!
… but up to 3 GHz in OC
Progress certainly, but it seems possible to push the RTX 4090 much further than the values presented by NVIDIA and Videocardz takes care of relaying screenshots published on Bilibili.
On one of them, it is possible to discover an RTX 4090 whose operating frequency is exactly 3 GHz. The consumption of the card then stands at 425.6 Watts. The second capture shows a significantly lower frequency – “only” 2640 MHz – but the consumption climbs to 615.8 W.
Both captures were made while the card was running the software MSI Kombustor : on the first capture, it was about the test called MSI-01 while the second displayed Furmark donut which is known to lead to a sharp increase in consumption.
Note that currently, nothing confirms these captures, which could also be montages. The first GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition from NVIDIA will be on sale from October 12, while the day before the tests will be published.
